Every Green Day Album Closing Song Ranked From Worst To Best

2. Whatsername - American Idiot

If the members of Green Day all suddenly forgot how to play music after releasing this album, they would still go down as one of the greats of modern rock.

American Idiot is regarded as one of the best albums of the 2000s and with good reason; its unrelenting take on post-9/11 America resonated with millions of listeners across the globe, and songs like Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Holiday, and the title track have all established themselves as 21st century classics.

The song that ends this masterpiece is Whatsername, a song about the lead character of the album's connection to a lost love. What starts off slow soon erupts into a full-blown pop punk track, as the Jesus of Suburbia struggles to escape the title character's grip, even after so many years.

A great song that fits perfectly into the larger narrative of the album, Whatsername more than earns its spot as the closer to such an important record.
