Every Nickelback Album Ranked From Worst To Best

2. Dark Horse

Having an album sell platinum even once is merely a distant ambition for most musicians, but to have an album reach platinum status 15 times is beyond practically everyone’s wildest dreams. In 2008, Nickelback released one of their most commercially successful albums ever in their sixth record, ‘Dark Horse’.

After releasing three incredibly popular albums on the bounce, ‘Dark Horse’ was under a lot of pressure to perform in the eyes of the band, the fans and the critics.

In spite of the mammoth task at hand, ‘Dark Horse’ became an unrivalled commercial triumph, reaching the top five in 12 different albums charts across the world (achieving four #1 spots in the process). Some of these conquered charts included the US Billboard 200, the UK Albums Chart and of course the Canadian Albums Chart.

Music critics again took the opportunity to prove their stubbornness though as they slammed ‘Dark Horse’. Despite the fact ‘Dark Horse’ has sold over 5 million copies worldwide, rock critics still couldn’t muster positive words for Nickelback, with The Guardian awarding one star, PopMatters going 3/10, AllMusic awarding 1.5 stars and Metacritic with 49/100.

However, ‘Dark Horse’ was still Nickelback’s fourth straight platinum selling album in the US which allowed them to tour worldwide and maintain their superstar status.
