Every Queen Album Opening Song Ranked From Worst To Best

3. Tie Your Mother Down - A Day At The Races

A Day at the Races had a tough job following up A Night at the Opera, but it more than met the challenge, giving the band their second consecutive UK number one and adding songs like Somebody to Love and Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy to their repertoire.

There's also the small matter of Tie Your Mother Down.

Sung by a red-blooded boy desperate to take his girl out on the town, Tie Your Mother Down is full of brutish energy disguised by Mercury's effervescent charm.

This is pure rock 'n' roll bliss; a degenerate subject matter; a bouncy guitar part; a strong drumbeat; and a singalong chorus. It is the genre at its very best and is still a crowd pleaser today.

Please don't actually tie your mothers down, though, it's bad for her back.
