Every Queen Album Opening Song Ranked From Worst To Best

2. Innuendo - Innuendo

On the total other end of the spectrum from Tie Your Mother Down is the massive prog-inspired title track from Queen's penultimate album, 1991's Innuendo.

With a guest sport from Yes guitarist Steve Howe, Innuendo is one of the most musically complex pieces in Queen's entire catalogue, and was seen by many at the time as a return to their '70s songwriting prowess.

It feels like it's from another world, like the soundtrack to a dystopian sci-fi movie where a lone traveller finds themselves stranded on a distance planet. Mercury gives it the beans here, matching these grandiose vibes, which is bizarre when you consider that, within nine months of the album's release, he'd be dead.

Expertly crafted, well-performed, and endlessly creative, Innuendo is a delight and one of the last great hurrahs of the band's career.
