Every Queen Album Opening Song Ranked From Worst To Best

1. Brighton Rock - Sheer Heart Attack

Queen always perform best when they combine old-school vaudeville showmanship with a modern-sounding hard rock presentation.

The ultimate example of this? Brighton Rock, the opening song from November 1974's Sheer Heart Attack.

The tale of two lovers engaging in a scandalous holiday affair, Brighton Rock sees Freddie revel in getting the chance to play both characters, adjusting his voice accordingly. The real star though is Brian May, who delivers a career-defining guitar performance which takes up most of the middle section of this 5+ minute monster.

Brighton Rock excels in so many areas. It's got a great story, funny without being silly, and some outstanding musical sections, letting it breeze by without ever dragging.

Of all the great Queen openers, and there are a lot of great ones, Brighton Rock is sat firmly at the top of the mountain.
