Grammy Awards 2016: Predicting The Winners

7. Best Rock Performance

Nominees- Alabama Shakes; Florence + The Machine; Foo Fighters; Elle King; Wolf Alice.Who Should Win: Foo Fighters All five of these acts have had a tremendous 2015 and they have all released some brilliant singles. Some people may argue that Elle King's outrageously catchy single, Ex's and Oh's isn't exactly the kind of rock song most people think of when discussing the great genre, but music is becoming increasingly hard to define nowadays as everybody seems to be dabbling and experimenting with different sounds and productions. The Foo Fighters have won four Grammy Awards for Best Rock Album and it's easy to see - or listen - why. Something From Nothing led their eight studio album, Sonic Highways. Featuring Dave Grohl's unique growl and incorporating an, at times, pyschadelic, funky sound; this song shows not only progression, but just how interesting and exciting the Fighters are. Like Tame Impala, creating a fresh sound or tweaking your music to show progression and a risk is majorly exciting. Florence still sounds like Florence and the Alabama Shakes are still shaking to the same sound. The Foo Fighters are thinking out of the box here. Adding funky elements might seem like they are just following the rapid rise of the returning genre, but Dave Grohl and his band mates amalgamate it with their gritty rock sound in a way that no other act could. If Foo Fighters don't win, newcomer Elle King- the daughter of Rob Schneider by the way! - should win with her bubbly and infectious Ex's and Oh's; a fantastic gem of a single, but when it comes to rock music, not many acts do it better than the Foos. Grohl and his peers should be making room on their mantelpiece for another glistening gramophone.
