Grammys 2013: Winners We'd Like To See
With the Grammy Awards coming up on Sunday, Ive done nothing but listen to the nominees in every category for the past week. I ended up with two hours left over to write essays for two of my classes (see how much we love you?), but I came to a few solid conclusions about some of the artists I feel deserved to win. Note: Ill be skipping a few categories that I either dont follow or have much of an opinion on, so if you feel like some are missing: they are. Record Of The Year: Somebody That I Used To Know- Gotye Feat. Kimbra http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UVNT4wvIGY I dont really like this song at all, but I have a great respect for everything it did. From the somehow catchy tune to the inventive music video, this track was a very well done overall project. The time it spent atop Billboard makes the argument very easy to formulate as well. Album Of The Year: Channel Orange- Frank Ocean http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jG5P3UjwkbQ If we go off sales here, my pick wont look too smart. But Album Of The Year has never been completely about sales, so Ill keep going. Im a huge Frank Ocean fan, and therefore a little biased, but Channel Orange was done so amazingly that this type of consideration is easy to make a case for. Ocean has some of the most original song concepts that this era of music has seen in a long time, and his vocals are top notch. He writes about things that most artists wouldn't ever touch, and everything he does just comes across as real. I feel like Babel by Mumford and Sons will probably win this category, but the case is definitely there for Channel Orange. Song Of The Year: Call Me Maybe- Carly Rae Jepsen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWNaR-rxAic Ok. I know what youre thinking, but hear me out. Call Me Maybe was one of the catchiest (even if you didnt want it to be), most fun (even if you acted like it wasnt), and most pick-up line inspiring (even if you were smart enough to NEVER use that line) songs that any of us have ever come across. This song divides people around me into two major groups: those who love it, and those who absolutely hate it- but never change the channel when it comes on the radio. No matter how you feel about Call Me Maybe, you have to admit that you absolutely follow along when it comes on. Do I think it will win the Grammy? Nope. In fact, I expect We Are Young by Fun. to win that honor, but I sure wouldnt have a problem if Carly Rae Jepsens summer jam spectacular did. Also- 400,087,402 views is a big number.
