2. The Blueprint (2001)

220px-Jay-z-the-blueprint€œIt€™s like bringing a knife to a gun fight / pen to a test / chest to a line of fire / do you think that€™s best?€ from the song €˜Takeover€™ by Jay-ZThe Blueprint was and will always be a game changer. Jay-Z was already a successful recording artist before the release of The Blueprint; it was after its release that he became a superstar. The album contains many of his classic singles that may not have been played on the radio, but can be heard on every tour that he plays. From start to finish, The Blueprint is undoubtedly his most energetic and unforgiving album to date. €˜Takeover€™ may be one of the greatest diss songs ever recorded. It features other hits such as €˜IZZO (H.O.V.A)€™, €˜Heart of the City (Ain€™t No Love)€™, and €˜Girls, Girls, Girls€™. The Blueprint contained everything you now expect from a Jay-Z record and the majority of the album can be put on his greatest hits compilation. The Blueprint is the album you give to someone when they want to start listening to Jay-Z; it€™s the very definition of his genius. 01. The Ruler€™s Back 02. Takeover03. IZZO (H.O.V.A.)04.
