Kings Of Leon: Ranking Their Albums From Worst To Best
2. Because Of The Times
950026The band's third album saw them really find themselves; their songwriting improved, their technical prowess increased and the creativity poured out of them. The sounds from the guitars were wacky, wonderful and often brutal as they channelled the spirit of their influences and found their own sound at the same time.
Some of the band's greatest hits come from this album; whether it's the dark and brooding 'On Call', with its simple, but catchy bass line, the upbeat anthem 'Fans' or the fierce demon 'Black Thumbnail'. The album also saw the band hint at things to come: final track 'Arizona' sounds like it would fit nicely into Only By The Night.
Because Of The Times has the perfect blend of songs. Reflective, reverb driven numbers like 'The Runner' are amongst the rock n'roll fuelled tracks like 'Camaro'. For this reason, the album was featured on many 'top 10 albums of the year' lists and was met with very positive reviews and rightly so.
It's an album that showed the band's maturity and to people of a certain age, it's timeless. To many Kings Of Leon fans, it is still their best album.
