Grace (born Thomas James Gabel) came out as a transgender woman in 2012. Speaking about the transition, Grace said she felt gender dysphoria from a very early age - describing it as a "detachment from you and from yourself".

Grace has talked about seeing the "extreme value" of the trans community talking about their experiences with transitioning especially with hormones and surgeries. This is part of why she's so open about her transition, so that people who are transitioning can learn and make more educated decisions about what they want to do or don't want to do.

She has done many interviews regarding her experience as a transgender woman and has made a documentary with AOL called True Trans in which she shares her journey and meets with other trans people learning about their journeys too.

The documentary is a very intimate look at her transition with scenes of her injecting hormones into her leg to detailed interviews with all of the participants (including Grace) about multiple different trans topics. In regards to why she was so open in the documentary Grace talked about how she wanted to be the resources she didn't have when discovering her trans identity so that it was available for other trans people.
