Limp Bizkit: The Rise & Fall In 10 Songs
5. Rollin'
RISE AND FALL
This song was huge, this song cemented Limp Bizkit in pop culture history, and what is hilarious about it is, this song is not even that good. Rollin’ accompanied the release of the band’s biggest album, The Chocolate Starfish and The Hot Dog Flavoured Water, and there was much hype around this single release. Accepting their status as pop icons in a contradictory manner, the music video for the song focused on the band driving a Bentley around New York City, with Fred Durst taking time out to show off with backup dancers a la a traditional pop music video from that era.
The cheesy video was a success and secured the band a win for the Best Rock Music Video at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards, became TRL's Number One Spring Break Music Video, popularised a goofy dance that can still be seen on dance floors when the song plays alternative nights, and awarded LB their only UK number one.
Rollin' was the zenith of Limp Bizkit's popularity and status within pop culture.
While it is a shame that they are considered an embarrassing relic of the past, few ever made it this big. Just think, a METAL band climbed to number one in a year when S Club 7, Geri Halliwell and Atomic Kittens also made the top spot in the UK charts.
As great as this time was for the band, it also signifies the height from which they would fall. To date, they have never released anything to as much fanfare as Rollin’.
