Limp Bizkit: The Rise & Fall In 10 Songs

4. Build A Bridge

FALL

While this melodic and catchy song is one of the better tracks from the mixed-bag release Results May Vary, it does much to highlight how the world had changed since the release of the band’s previous album, The Chocolate Starfish and The Hot Dog Flavoured Water. Since October 2000, the band had had their time at the peak of the music world, and the world had changed immeasurably after September 11, 2001.

Immediately after the attacks on the World Trade Centre, music videos were cancelled and altered, movies and games were postponed, and pop culture had shifted. Gone were the days of shock and controversy within mainstream media, which was a landscape which helped Limp Bizkit prosper.

Build A Bridge is an example of this less anger-fuelled approach prevalent in post-9/11 alternative music. Instead of vowing to break stuff or targeting bullies in their songs, Limp Bizkit offered a more supportive and compassionate song. With a chorus consisting of the inspiring ‘even though it’s gonna crumble down / I’ll keep building till you come around,’ Build A Bridge fits with a change in people’s moods when listening to music. However, it doesn’t fit with the thought and energy behind what made Limp Bizkit Limp Bizkit in the first place.
