Marvel Cinematic Universe: Soundtrack Scores Ranked From Worst To Best

7. Spider-Man: Homecoming

Spider-Man has had an interesting cinematic history, putting it mildly. Sam Raimi brought the web slinger to the big screen with his trilogy in the early '00s, followed by Sony's reboot with Andrew Garfield. By the time Garfield hung up his Spidey-suit, several composers had taken a crack at it.

Danny Elfman's theme was well received, though Christopher Young's music for Spider-Man 3 is somewhat forgotten. James Horner delivered a demo reel of his earlier music for The Amazing Spider-Man, with Hans Zimmer bringing the dubstep for the much improved soundtrack to The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

However, by the time this sixth Spider-Man film was being created, there was very little identity to the character, other than the usual beats. Dead Uncle, bitten by a spider, Mary-Jane. Michael Giacchino, fresh off his success from Doctor Strange, set about changing that.

He opens the piece with a big band rendition of the famous '60s cartoon intro, immediately setting the tone. This is then followed by the most expressive soundtrack for a Spider-Man film to that point. The main theme is upbeat and energetic, while the Vulture's theme is suitably sinister.

The score is potentially one of the best of the suite of Spider-Man soundtracks that preceded it, which is no mean feat. It is certainly much more fun than any that came before, though perhaps lacks in some of the more surreal moments of Zimmer's or Elfman's. It does however suit this iteration of the character perfectly.
