Vocals: Matthew K. Heafy
Lead & Rhythm Guitars: Alex Skolnick
Bass: David Ellefson
Drums: Mike Portnoy
Additional Lead Guitar: Matthew K. Heafy Perhaps it's because I'm a
huge Trivium fan, or perhaps it's because the song itself just has everything you want out of a slamming metal song in 2015, but Destination Nowhere has proven itself to be one of my favourites over the last few weeks of drinking this album in. A palm-muted riff sets sets up a canvas that each member then contributes to, a workmanlike drum beat providing a great pace-change and welcoming Matt Heafy's newer and more powerful vocal style in abundance. Heafy also contributes to the outro solo too, unleashing a tightly-picked section that ends it all in style. That's without mentioning the overall feel of the song itself, which take a far cleaner bent on the vocals, doubling-down on providing a chorus you'll wake up singing the next morning. Matt ended up fronting the only single from the Roadrunner United's All Star Sessions album in 2005, and it's clear his more current vocal style sits perfectly with an older, chuggier sense of instrumentation.
