Metallica: ONE Overlooked Song On Every Album

2. The Judas Kiss - Death Magnetic

After the stench of St. Anger lingered in everyone's minds for way too long, it was practically a miracle when we got Death Magnetic. Although there were still some production issues left over from the loudness wars, it was good to see Metallica actually sounding like themselves again, with songs that were long thrash abouts just like the old days. Though there were decent cuts that made it to radio like The Day That Never Comes, The Judas Kiss tends to get forgotten by far too many.

Coming right after the third installment in the Unforgiven trilogy, this is the kind of down and dirty thrash song that many of us had been waiting for since the days of And Justice for All. With James Hetfield back in shape once again, this is the kind of riff that would make most guitarists' wrists fall off if they tried to play it, along with some nice chaotic lead work from Kirk Hammett.

As far as commercial potential though, this song might have the single greatest chorus on the entire record, with James taking a badass riff and somehow filling in the gaps with instructions for us to sanctify all of our demons. We may have spent a few too many days in the church of St. Anger, but this is where all our prayers had been answered and the metal gods returned.
