Ranking The '27 Club' Based On Musical Talent

5. Richey Edwards

Richey Edwards is on this list, because he did die at twenty seven... presumably. The musician's death/disappearance created a fascinating guessing game amongst the media and while he was confirmed legally dead in 2008; there are still occasional random 'sightings' of Edwards around the world. Edwards' disappeared on 1 February 1995; he was scheduled to fly to the US with Manic Street Preachers bandmate James Dean Bradfield, but never showed up at the airport. His car was later discovered parked close to the Severn Bridge, which is a known suicide spot, however his body was never found. Now that's cleared up, let's talk music. Edwards was an extremely intelligent, yet enigmatic man, who was having a constant battle with depression; which was often showcased in his poetic, yet culture-based lyrics. Here is an example taken from the track 'Faster': "Self-disgust is self-obsession honey and I do as I please. A morality obedient only to the cleansed repented." It is hard to debate the Welsh rocker's lyrical talent or his expressive, passionate personality. Edwards even famously cut the words '4 real' into his arm, to proclaim his sincere feelings towards art when pressed by a journalist. Manic Street Preachers still had great commercial success as a three piece since the disappearance of Richey Edwards.
