The Beatles: 14 Most Under-Appreciated Songs
7. When I'm Sixty-Four (Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band)
Sgt. Pepper is as close as you can get to the perfect album by any band and the fact that When I'm Sixty-Four wasn't offered as a single is kind of a shock.
First off, it's one of the most un-Beatles songs ever written in that it features no guitar whatsoever, just bass to go with piano, drums, and a litany of non-traditional rock instruments including clarinet and horns. Secondly, it makes you wonder how else it could have been done in spite of it already being great. It's suddenly no wonder that multiple a cappella covers of it exist.
Picking and choosing singles from Sgt. Pepper must have been a doozy. GBetween the title track and With A Little Help From My Friends, plus Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds and the immortal A Day In The Life, I can only imagine that the process included picking track titles out of a hat.
When I'm Sixty-Four may not have gotten the respect it deserved from the get-go, but is still much beloved by fans and needs a spot on the list.
