The Mercury Prize: Who Got Snubbed?

Fuck Buttons €“ Slow Focus

Slowfocus I must admit, prior to the release of this album, Fuck Buttons were not on my radar. I had heard whispers of the name, but alas nothing more. But this album has without a doubt developed into one of my favourite releases of the year. A fine display of what you could maybe even call the heritage of Electronica, a sound which lends itself to releases of the past, while not succumbing to the temptations of modern day 1000bpm beats. Each song on the album is assure of itself and matures with time as the track counter ticks on forward. Building upon itself layer on layer, Slow Focus produces and soundscape that cane only be described as euphoric. If I were to ask you to listen to the album, I would ask you not to listen to it from the comfort of your bedroom, but to stick it on a transportable device, go out into the wild open that is the world, and let the drive of each song alter your perspective of your surroundings. If audio was a drug, this would be crystal blue. I think the most obvious choice for snobbery in this case would be the artists name, after all, you wouldn't want to tarnish your perfect, media orgy of an award ceremony with such foul language would you? I can only dream of the posters plastered up and down the country, in all of the newspapers: Winners of the Barclaycard Mercury Prize Award: Fuck Buttons.
