7. Cauterize
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9whP5NvqmAc Easily the most instantly sensory-assaulting and downright brutal intro Tremonti's put his name to so far (and there have been a lot of them), Cauterize positively storms out the starting gate on a flame-tipped stallion, its grace and beauty coming later as a surprising tonal shift heralds Mark's vocals going a completely different way than what you're expecting. That's what makes it so unique though; no other songwriter would think to switch gears so sharply - an approach that comes back later on when a simple-sounding riff is countered by a barnstorming set of chords. It then sets up one of the best vocal moments on the whole album, Tremonti proving all that time on the road really has refined his pipes into another realm of brilliance.
