Over the past few years, spring has proved to be something of a quiet time in the UK music industry, owing to the fact that many established artists opt to release new albums in the summer and in the run up to Christmas. London rock band Bastille took advantage of this fact in 2013, releasing 'Bad Blood' to much critical acclaim in February and going straight to #1 with it. Supported by singles such as 'Flaws' (#21), 'Pompeii' (#2), 'Laura Palmer' (#42, but deserving of a higher place for the Twin Peaks reference) and 'Things We Lost In The Fire' (#28), the album was re-released later in the year to incorporate additional material from the band's previous EPs to showcase their musical range further, such as 'Of The Night' (#2), a mashup of dance classics Rhythm Is A Dancer and Rhythm Of The Night with soft rock instrumentals. Strangely, it failed to include material such as 'Adagio For Strings' (a song similar to Of The Night in that it mixed elements of Samuel Barber's composition with Haddaway's What Is Love) and the somewhat touching 'No Angels'. Regardless of this, the exposure that the band have garnered this year with their songs and touring has made a significant impact on the British music scene, and 2014 may seem them conquer additional countries given the moderate success of 'Bad Blood' and 'Pompeii' in the United States. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3WqMcvts3Y http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXptzKluBLc
