One of the stranger parks on this list is the crocheted playground created by textile artist Toshiko Horiuchi for Hakone Park in Sapporo, Japan. This playground took tons of yarn to crochet and the artist worked ten hour days until it was complete.

Horiuchi originally designed crochet art for modern museums, but was inspired to build play spaces when two children started exploring her designs at a museum. Throw in some bright colours and you have a playground where kids are known to get lost for hours on end.

The psychedelic net is fashioned for children to jump, climb and roll around. It’s hidden in a wooden pavilion designed from recyclable materials to protect the fabric from the elements, but also combine indoor and outdoor areas. The greater beauty of the artist’s installation is that it won’t last forever since it’s not metal and concrete. So swing while you can and enjoy the freedom of youth.
