10 Best Harry Potter Chapters
9. Snape's Worst Memory
Book:
Chapter Synopsis: Harry journeys into the Pensieve and witnesses Snape being humiliated by the Marauders.
The Marauders were first introduced back in The Prisoner of Azkaban, and since then, fans have craved for a prequel focused on the lives of Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs. Though such a prequel seems unlikely to ever materialise, Rowling did offer a brief insight into their time at Hogwarts via the Pensieve.
Experiencing the younger versions of James, Sirius, Remus and Peter was fascinating. In particular, James and Sirius’ treatment of Snape was not expected, as the pair of them viewed him as little more than a toy for them to play with, making the reader sympathise with Snape rather than the Marauders.
Rowling also planted a clever red herring during this chapter. By showing Snape’s anger at Lily when she attempted to help him, she gave the misleading impression that Snape did not care for her.
