8. Camp 1391
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxr8vpLlisg Location: Northern Israel The very existence of Camp 1391 was unknown to the world until 2003 when it was discovered by accident when a historian was pouring over old maps and found something that had been airbrushed from existence. Less than one hour from Tel Aviv, Camp 1391 is an Israeli Defence Forces prison for high-risk prisoners where the guards can do whatever they want with impunity. Prisoners who made it out alive describe being blindfolded upon arrival where they are then kept in cells no more than 2m x 2m with no natural light whatsoever. There have been allegations of sexual abuse and violence from the guards. Prisoners are not told where they are and they are not allowed visitors of any kind including their lawyers or the Red Cross. Interrogations are not recorded and the Camp has received hundreds of complaints of alleged ill treatment and torture but none have been followed up by the Israeli government. HaMoked, an Israeli human rights organization, has petitioned the high Court of Justice to close the facility down but to no avail which means this prison, dubbed 'the Israeli Guantanamo' is still in use today.
