10 Deadly Roller Coasters That Killed People

4. New Texas Giant

TexasgiantPark: Six Flags Over Texas (Texas, United States) Ride Opened: 1990 (reopened as New Texas Giant in 2011) Deaths: 1 The Texas Giant originally opened in 1990, as a wooden roller coaster. However, after a decline in the smoothness of the ride, it was renovated and relaunched in 2011 as the New Texas Giant, this time featuring a steel track. It was following its reopening as the New Texas Giant that calamity struck. On the 19th of July in 2013, a 52-year old woman fell to her death from the roller coaster while it was running. This led to a large-scale inquiry as to how the incident had occurred. The ride was closed during the investigation, which eventually concluded that the tragedy was not due to any kind of mechanical failure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtbCi6xts7s&feature=kp The New Texas Giant reopened two months later on the 14th September. All of the coaster's trains were given re-designed restraints and seat belts, and the incident also led to Six Flags introducing seat belts on several of its other roller coasters.
