10 Despicable War Crimes That Were Shamefully Denied
The heinous acts wiped out of history by their perpetrators. Or at least, they tried...
Much of history is open to revisionism, particularly when it comes to the matter of genocide. These acts are so terrible and frequently come with such a stratospheric body count that countries where atrocities were committed would rather look the other way and downplay that a genocide ever occurred. Or if it is recognised, it is not on as wide a scale as historians have postulated. The 20th Century witnessed atrocities that were very extreme in nature and happened all over the globe. There has never been such a systematic, cold attempt by dictators like Stalin and Hitler to exterminate people in campaigns such as The Terror and The Final Solution. Despite this, only a tiny amount of genocides have been officially recognised by the UN - including Rwanda, Bosnia and the Holocaust. The perpetrators of other overlooked genocides seem to get away with it. And even the so-called 'Good Guys' do not escape charges of genocide. The USA has taken part in widespread war crimes in the Vietnam War and there have been charges of war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan. It has been considered whether the British government committed an atrocity or a mere act of war in the sinking of the Belgrano in the Falklands War. In any case, genocide denial is a syndrome that affects vast swathes of the world and leaves a bad taste in the communities that have born the brunt of it. Within are some war crimes that have been subject to denial and cover up, despite the blazing guilt of all concerned.
