10 Dumbest Things In Harry Potter And The Cursed Child

Did we really need a crossover between Harry Potter and Back to the Future?

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is riddled with problems. As impressive as the effects are when witnessing the live performance, the story is far below the standard of the other Harry Potter books.

There’s just no getting away from the fact The Cursed Child feels like fan fiction. From start to finish it’s littered with ludicrous story beats, some of which contradict the established rules of the Wizarding World.

What’s more, many of the returning characters behave in ways that go against the essence of their personalities. Sure, people change over time, but some of the character decisions in The Cursed Child simply don’t feel right.

This would be somewhat understandable if the play had been exclusively written by Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, but J.K. Rowling is also credited with writing the story. Given how much care Rowling took in crafting the narratives of her original novels, it’s odd that she allowed such a lacklustre plot to be brought to life.

Whilst The Cursed Child isn’t devoid of merit, even the most dedicated Harry Potter fans couldn’t resist rolling their eyes when they first read the script...

10. Hermione Is Minister For Magic

Hermione Granger is one of J.K. Rowling’s greatest creations. She’s intelligent, hardworking, and undergoes a considerable change throughout her time at Hogwarts.

As brilliant as Hermione is, she’s an odd choice for Minister for Magic. In the early chapters of The Deathly Hallows, she quickly shoots down Rufus Scrimgeour’s suggestion that she should consider a role at the Ministry. Indeed, she responds by saying she ‘wants to do some good in the world’.

As such, it seems strange that she would change her mind and pursue a career as a politician. Given her exceptional talent, Hermione is more than capable of taking on a multitude of roles in the Wizarding World.

It was simply a wasted opportunity to not give her a more interesting profession.
