4. It's The Hometown Of English Mustard
Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire was the original home of mustard, however in 1720 Mrs Clements (first name unknown) of Durham invented a new method of extracting the full flavour from the mustard seed, which gave it a much stronger taste. It has been said that her mill was situated at the rear of a property in Saddler Street. The production of the original 'Durham Mustard' was later passed into the hands of the well known Colmans of Norwich. So yeah, basically you owe all of your best sandwiches to Durham.
