5. Lubna Kerr - Where Are You Really From?

Making her debut show this year, Lubna Kerr is the newest act on this list, but a very promising and exciting new voice.

Ostensibly, this is a show about xenophobia, as summed up by the title - as a Scottish-Pakistani woman Lubna tells us about how she often gets asked the dreaded "But where are you REALLY from?" by strangers. But in fact, this is not a show that dives deep into the weighty issue of institutionalised racism in British society. Instead, Lubna chooses to look at it in a more positive light; it's a question whose roots are "What connections exist between us?", and she cheerfully compares it with equivalents from across Scottish and Pakistani culture.

It's a warm, funny, and inclusive show that believes everyone is looking for ways to connect with each other, and that we're all the same in the end.
