There's a very faintly deranged edge to Phil Cooper, and not because he's a 'wacky' or surreal comedian. There's a beautiful sense of innocent, child-like wonder to the man that makes you question if he's the sort who, if left unattended for too long, might genuinely try to press items of silver jewellery against the family labrador *just in case* it had turned into a werewolf without him noticing.

This year, he's on form - after inheriting a house from his grandfather in South Wales, he's been trying to renovate the property while reflecting on the ways in which the two of them are similar to one another, and the ways in which they had nothing in common. What begins as a simple reflection on the relationship between a man and his late grandfather, though, becomes a wider exploration of generational differences, including how fashions in comedy itself have changed. This is warm, clever comedy at its best.
