10 Insane And Bizarre Theories About Stephen King
8. He Lied His Way Out Of The War
During his years at the University of Maine, King became active in student politics and supported an anti-war movement on the campus. He graduated in 1970 during the Vietnam War and despite recalling that in "the world I grew up in, there was a draft that pretty much swept up everybody" he didn't end up conscripted.
After a medical examination post-graduation, he was found to have flatfeet, limited vision, high blood pressure and punctured ear drums. Its obvious to say he did not meet the health requirements for a soldier.
Due to his open criticism of war it was rumoured that none of these afflictions actually belong to King, with some going as far as to suggest that he paid off a doctor to change his records. This rumour can be completely dismissed as King does suffer from macular degeneration, an incurable condition which leads to blindness.
