10 Interesting Multiclass Options To Improve Your Dungeons & Dragons Character

8. Barbarian/Warlock

Dungeons and Dragons
Marvel Comics

A Barbarian is scary. A barbarian with a talking, demonic axe is a storytelling revelation.

At first this combination may seem an unusual one; Barbarians aren't exactly a class famous for their intelligent spellcasting capabilities. But worry not, put a few extra points into your charisma score, and you'll be eligible for this surprisingly tactical class.

Great backstory potential aside, the Barbarian/Warlock combo is great for any who want a diverse, best of both worlds character, especially in combat.

While the Barbarian is a brilliant close quarters fighter, its ranged capabilities leave something to be desired, a few paltry javelins aside. With a couple of added Warlock levels, you'll be blasting Eldritch tentacles across the map like you're in a Lovecraft fanfiction.

An interesting feature of this class is the balance it requires. The Barbarian can't cast spells while raging, and is pretty vulnerable while not. As such, playing this class turns into an interesting risk vs reward consideration, with you having to decide whether to go full tank and rage, or keep back and have access to spells. This should keep combat fresh and new, even late into any long campaign. Plus magic swords are cool.
