10 Intriguing Things You Didn't Know About Reddit

9. It Has Incredibly Low Operating Costs

You would have thought that to run a website as commercially successful as Reddit, and to cope with the billions of visitors, that the site would have needed an extremely expensive infrastructure in order to keep everything going. Reddit manages to keep the website up with a skeleton crew, setting it apart from much of its competition. Unlike Google and Facebook, which have each set up extravagant offices and constructed gigantic complexes to showcase their success, the men behind Reddit have kept the bare bones of the company the same. In an interview with the Guardian, the co-founders revealed that the website giant has a 'lean' philosophy as the website was founded while the two men were students and had very little money. This mindset has continued to the present day, and it ensures that the website costs very little to maintain in comparison to many of its high profile competitors. This perhaps explains why Reddit has a minimalist look, and when you examine the website you can see how much this philosophy has continued to direct the path of the company.
