Former Ultimate Fighter contestant, Jon ‘War Machine’ Koppenhaver is currently serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for thirty-six years for various felonies including assaulting his associate, Cody Thomas, and former girlfriend, ex-pornographic actress, Christy Mack.

As a result of the assault, Mack suffered eighteen broken, lost teeth, as well as a ruptured liver. During her testimony in court, Mack stated that War Machine had become increasingly violent during their relationship.

Prior to these events, War Machine appeared on JRE and talked about why he dropped out of University. After his first year at The Citadel, a military college in South Carolina, Koppenhaver’s studies and credits were suspended due to him owing $15,000 in school fees.

Originally relying on his late father's pension to cover tuition costs, War Machine visited his mother and her partner in California to enquire what had happened to the money. After he discovered they had spent it on drugs, Koppenhaver stated he went into ‘berserk mode,’ and began beating his mother’s partner, until there was blood on the ceiling.

Avoiding a charge, due to the arresting officer allegedly declaring War Machine’s actions ‘sounded like self-defence,’ Koppenhaver severed ties with his family and began training in MMA.

While the ‘berserk mode’ story is not an anomaly on the podcast, its foreshadowing of future displays of exponential anger and violence from War Machine remain for difficult viewing.
