10 Occupations With Disturbingly High Body Counts
1. Lumberjacks (Loggers)
An occupation that primarily involves chopping down massive trees is destined to wind up on a list like this. Though technology has helped make the field safer then it has been in years past, logging is still one of the deadliest professions on the planet.
The numbers suggest, based on 135.9 out of 100,000 worker fatality rate, that logging is the most dangerous job in the US. In 2016, 91 American lumberjacks tragically lost their lives on the job.
As one might guess, falling trees are one of the most common issues the modern-day logger faces. They are also responsible for most of the fatal accidents.
Of course, the job can involve heavy equipment like harvesters and chainsaws, both of which have also been known to cause serious injuries.
To truly get a sense of how risky this job is, according to USA Today, logging is '38 times more dangerous than the typical job'.
