10 Problems Only People From Sydney Will Understand

13. Cockroaches & Spiders Are The Norm

When you move into Sydney, chances are that the first roommate you'll have there will a cockroach and his billions of family and friends. Rather than scream in disgust, cockroaches in Sydney are treated with a resounding 'meh' before they're either left alone or crushed underneath a shoe. Considered how Australia is home to a crazy amount of lethal creepy crawlies, and seeing as how roaches pretty much impossible to eradicate, living with roaches is considered an everyday norm and having cockroach bombs littering your house is as common has having light switches.

This attitude is not confined just to cockroaches either.

Every now and again, Sydneysiders are paid a visit by a big and hairy huntsman spider. Despite looking all big and menacing, what most people don't realise is that a huntsman spider is generally harmless. It can be good at keeping the insect population down and is generally more scared of you than you of it. Sydneysiders usually just leave the spider alone or gently release it back outside.

Of course not everyone is perfect and a huntsman spider's harmlessness generally doesn't erase the urge to squash it with a swatter.

My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem. Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh. You can follow me at @Fry_ying_pan but don't be offended if I don't tweet back. It's usually because I've spent too long trying to think up a witty response that the reply window has closed.
