10 Reasons To Stop Hating On J.K. Rowling

2. The Cormoran Strike Novels

Due to the monumental success of Harry Potter, Rowling’s series about a private detective called Cormoran Strike and his assistant Robin Ellacott is criminally underrated.

Given that the story is mostly set in modern London, the novels don’t transport the reader in the way the Harry Potter books did, but within its respective genre, the Cormoran Strike series is certainly one of the best. Indeed, it’s an essential read for anyone who enjoys detective stories.

The two main protagonists (Strike and Robin) are some of the best characters Rowling has ever written, with each of them having a detailed backstory and character arc.

In contrast to the Harry Potter series, the Cormoran Strike novels are specifically for adults - Rowling certainly doesn’t hold back with her descriptions of mature content.

The greatest similarity, however, is the accessible writing style and the gripping plot. Not once within the four books published so far does the narrative ever start to drag.

Put simply, the Cormoran Strike series is a masterclass in how to write detective stories, and they are sadly not given the attention they deserve.

Love to read and write. Have an unhealthy obsession with Harry Potter. Enjoy running up hills.
