10 Reasons To Stop Hating On J.K. Rowling
1. Harry Potter Is Still The Best Young Adult Fantasy Series
It would be wrong to claim that Harry Potter is the best fantasy series ever written. Authors such as J.R.R. Tolkien, Robert Jordan, George R.R. Martin, and Brandon Sanderson have crafted worlds on a scale that Rowling can only dream of. However, in terms of fantasy novels aimed at young adults and teenagers, Harry Potter is still unmatched.
Granted, there have been some good competitors since the publication of The Deathly Hallows back in 2007. Katherine Arden’s Winternight trilogy is a beautifully written, original tale, and The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern is equally charming. Yet none of these works are on the same level as Harry Potter.
Rowling’s combination of fantasy and mystery kept readers hooked on every word of her novels, and her detailed magical world – though not as large as those created by the authors mentioned above – was cohesive and enchanting in equal measure.
Unlike most stories focused on teenagers, Rowling’s magical world transcended its demographic and was read by people of all ages. In essence, this is why her books have sold in such colossal volumes, and no other recent series has come close to achieving this universal appeal.
