10 Terrifying Prehistoric Creatures We Should See In A Movie
2. Dunkleosteus
The concept of a giant fish isn't so scary unless you think of it like a shark. Dunkleosteus, however, has the distinct advantage of being a fearsome predator with an unbelievably threatening size and bite. In many cases, this terror of the seas can be a far more horrible thought than even the scariest great white.
Dunkleosteus consisted of ten different species, with the largest of these growing up to 8 metres long and weighing in at 4.4 short tons, which helps it to be one of the largest placoderms to have ever lived. But the most dreadful thing about the creature was its powerful jaw that had a bite force of 6,000 N at the tip and 7,400 at the blade edge. To put that into perspective, the previously mentioned josephoartigasia monesi - who's bite exceeded a tiger's three times - had just over 4,000 N.
To add to the mystique of this creature is the fact that it had a bony exterior which essentially acted as armour for the beast, making it the fish equivalent of an armoured tank.
It is plain to see why such a creature would make an unbelievable threat in the world of film or TV, as it is a mesmerizingly intimidating monster.
