10 Things You Didn’t Know About The London Underground

7. Its Longest And Shortest Journeys

The Tube is a fantastic way to get around the city, cutting journeys that would take hours down to mere minutes. However, not every ride is actually worth it.

Let's start with the longest gaps between stations. Terminal 4 at Heathrow Airport has its own Underground station, whilst Terminals 2 and 3 have one stop serving both. The distance between these two is 4.31km (2.68 miles), making it the second longest journey on The Tube.

To find the longest, we have to go back to an old favourite: Chesham. To travel the 6.19km from Chesham to Chalfont & Latimer station would take an hour and a half to walk, but the trip is cut down to ten minutes on the Metropolitan Line.

At the other end of the scale, you have a bunch of journeys in Central London with laughably short distances. The king of pointless Tube rides is Covent Garden to Leicester Square, which is just 250m (0.16 miles). It would only take four minutes to walk there and would be a lot cheaper too.

However, you would have to negotiate all the tourists, which is worth paying any amount for just to avoid.
