10 Thoughts British Men Have When Getting A Haircut

4. Keep The Conversation Going Or Don't Begin One

Getting your haircut can sometimes feel like a first trip to a psychologist. If you end up with a nattering hairdresser, you can feel like you've given them your life story, or heard theirs, by the time you're paying.

Conversation can be great if it runs fairly smoothly, and helps the otherwise uncomfortable experience go well. It can also be great thinking time if your hairdresser isn't one for the small talk, and has made it clear from the get-go.

But an awkwardness on a level only shared in an Uber ride can be experienced if either party starts a conversation that slowly fizzles out with every snip of the scissors. Not only are you hoping they do a good job, but you're now in a position where you either hope they say something to break the now slightly awkward silence, or are scrambling for something to say yourself.

When both of you fail to find words to fill the void of silence, you are left wondering if they are feeling the same awkwardness as you. British over-analysis kicks in and you wonder why they started a conversation they didn't intend to continue, or if it was your fault the conversation died.
