10 Tragic Deaths That Happened At Disney Theme Parks

8. A Man Was Killed During A Collision On Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (Anaheim Disneyland)

Whilst riding the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Anaheim Disneyland back in September 2003, a 22-year-old man named Marcelo Torres was badly injured when the ride became unstable and a carriage came off the track. He later died as a result of the incident. The simplest explanation as to what occurred is that the very front carriage of the ride - which looks like a locomotive - experienced a mechanical failure, which caused it to come away from the track and hit the roof of tunnel, which resulted in the first passenger carriage (in which Torres was seated) to collide with its underside. Torres suffered fractured ribs which lead to a laceration of his lungs and finally severe blood loss. A court eventually ruled that Disney had failed to maintain the vehicles to the proper standard, and that the appropriate safety measures had not been installed (nor has the staff working the ride been trained to sufficient standards).
