10 Valentine’s Day Facts You Probably Didn’t Know
1. People Are Starting To Spend More On Pets Than Humans
In 2015, a massive $703 million was spent on buying Valentine's Day gifts for people's pets. That's a lot of catnip, dog chews and treats for the furry friends in your life. As weird as it sounds, there's nothing wrong with romantically showing your cat/dog how much you love them by buying some toys or food. But people don't stop there.
Of course they don't.
According to Pet Product Marketing, folks in the UK will spend more on their pets this Valentine's Day than on their significant others. 47% of people polled will buy their pet a gift this year, and one in three (around 37%) admit they'll happily spend the big day with a fluffy pal instead of a lover.
It must be great to be a cat. You sit around all day looking smug, nap at least six times before bedtime, and then get endless love showered upon you every time the calendar says 14 February. And most other days, for that matter. The same goes for dogs, only without the cat-nap part.
