10 Ways You Can Blame Science For Your Horrible Personality

7. You Worry Too Much

No one like to worry, and yet we all do it. It can completely wreck our enjoyment of the present, doesn't actually achieve anything and can even make the worrisome situation worse at times, so why can't we just cut it out? It is thought that this instinct to fret about the future actually began life as part of our forward-planning systems. Our ability to foresee future events and weigh up the possible outcomes are actually excellent skills to have and help us with our problem solving. However, we can sometimes get a bit carried away with our forward planning and and turn the whole thing into a hellscape of our worst nightmares. There are some instances in which worry can actually help, as it can motivate us to avoid negative outcomes. Studies have shown that smokers are much more likely to quit if they are made to worry about the consequences to their health. This is beneficial worry as it provides the worrier with an opportunity to gain control. However, when the worrier begins to imagine more and more improbable outcomes, it removes the feelings of control that we like to have which, in turn, makes the person worry even more to the point of incapacity.
