All cat owners, at some point in their lives, will tread their bare feet onto the carcass of some poor dead rodent.

But before you start cursing your little feline friend, understand why they're bringing them to you in the first place.

In the wild, cat mothers will bring their offspring prey in various stages of dead. This is her trying to teach you how to hunt. To begin with, they will bring home a completely lifeless animal just to feed you, but they will also begin to bring half-alive and barely injured ones too to test your hunting abilities.

Spayed females are more likely to do this than any others as they have a big kitten-shaped gap in their lives that their instincts are attempting to fill in.

The deader the animals that your cat brings you, the more useless she thinks you are. If they're completely lifeless then she's simply just trying to ensure that you don't starve.

The best way to understand how your cat's mind works, is to realise that they just see you as a big, weird cat.

As far as puss is concerned, you're a pretty lousy hunter and she's trying to give you the chance to learn. As her surrogate family, your cat wants to care for you as much as you want to care for her.
