9. Why Do They Sleep So Much?

Cats have got it all figured out. Spending all day sleeping, eating then sleeping some more sounds like the purrfect life for most people. The average cat will spend about 15 hours a day snoozing, but what exactly is so tiring about being a cat?

The thing about cats is that they don't do all of their sleeping at once like humans. Cats nap and snooze throughout the day and rarely actually enter a deep sleep, preferring to take catnaps with one eye open in case of passing predators or prey.

Cats are crepuscular, meaning that they prefer to be active at dawn and dusk, which is why they have so much energy just as you're nodding off or first thing in the morning when you're trying to cram some extra sleep in before your alarm goes off.

As natural predators, cats are programmed to conserve as much of their energy as possible, just in case they have to chase down their prey.

Cats would probably think that we're insane to go around purposefully wasting our energy all day, rendering us practically unable to form sentences, let alone chase a gazelle, by the time Eastenders comes on.
