12 Things David Cameron Wants You To Forget

2. Cameron Referred To Himself As The "Heir To (Tony) Blair"... Something He Must Deeply Regret

Tony Blair is often said to be have been so chameleonic that he could have represented any of the big three parties - but that still didn't lessen the level of stupidity connected to Cameron's remarks that he was the "heir to Blair". When he was first running for the Tory leadership in 2005, this quote came to light and Cameron received much criticism from his traditional Conservative base - partly because Blair was hated in some quarters because of the Iraq War, but particularly due to the fact that Cameron was praising the opposing party's leader. During the 2010 General Election campaign, Cameron even offered an apology to traditional Tory voters, saying:
"If I used that phrase, I regret it. "The point I was trying to make is this: that if you are going to succeed in changing your country for the better, you have to know where it€™s come from."
Despite this, Cameron has openly praised Blair in the past - giving him a standing ovation during his last-ever Prime Minister's Question Time, as well as paying tribute to the "huge efforts" the former New Labour leader had made to British politics. He also commented later that Blair had: "made considerable achievements to his credit, whether it is peace in Northern Ireland or his work in the developing world, which will endure." It's fair to say, many Conservatives still haven't forgiven Cameron for those pro-Blair comments...
