The tube is, arguably, equal parts good and bad. The Central Line is really speedy and pretty clean, but chances are you'll die of heat exhaustion. The Metropolitan Line is gorgeous but it doesn't go anywhere useful. The District Line goes to lots of places, but it's really slow and often smells a bit like wee. So it's a good thing that quite a lot is being invested into transport this year. First off, the London Overground is reported to get 25 new stations, largely around East London linking to Liverpool Street. This is excellent because, if you look at a tube map, you would be forgiven for thinking East London was a bit of a desert. National Rail only goes so far, and it's always nice to be able to trace where you're going by a map on the train. £6bn has been spent on the Thameslink programme, which will improve travel between North and South London (this is, also, about time), so in 2014 it should be easier to get around the city than ever.
