3. Fatal Accident Reconstruction Team

Wikipedia WTF
Wikipedia

This extremely concise article talks about the Fatal Accident Reconstruction Team, a group of police officers in a department who investigate car accidents. There are two paragraphs, the first of which is rather straightforward: it talks about how the team gathers evidence, what kinds of accidents they investigate, and how they work with survivors.

The fact that the majority of this entry is dry and uninteresting is what makes the second paragraph so delightful. It's just a single sentence long, and it reads, "These departments rarely refer to their team with an acronym, because the word fart is often considered vulgar or offensive."

That's the end right there, and there are so many things to appreciate. First is the fact that the sentence directs you to the Wikipedia page for "fart," as if you might need to clarify what that is. Then there's the completely unnecessary explanation that, to some, a fart is an offensive thing.

Mostly, though, the opening paragraph really builds up the importance of these people and the hard work they do, only for all of that to be completely undermined in the last sentence by a shameful, quick admission that their name is "fart."
