3. Myth - It's Forbidden To Take Their Photo

Amish Simpsons
Fox Searchlight

A photo of the Amish can be taken without them feeling some evil device has swallowed their souls - but most of them would prefer just to be merely left alone.

Tourists are thus encouraged to use sound judgment when snapping a keepsake of them. The Amish are hard-working folk who desire privacy and respect hence the reluctance to have their photo willy nilly. Most people toiling at their job would find a noisy group of paparazzi sightseers clicking away to be an annoyance especially since the Amish's job is actually located on their homestead too.

But if politely asked there's a good chance permission would be granted. If the visitor buys a few shoo-fly homemade pies before they leave they may even get a tour of the place and the opportunity to get an inside look of the workings of a real old school farm.

A Welsh semi-retired television producer and actor known for low end work that astonishingly people actually watched and even garnered some awards. Originally residing in the electrically-challenged Amish areas of Pennsylvania he has written a few books (Hollywood Pants and Hollywood Horrible Hints and Terribly Fake Tips vols 1 & 2) which you can buy on amazon and all great book stores. After a brief stint in Australia he now finds himself back in the Welsh valleys of his home country noting that it hasn't changed a bit!
