15. The Recipe For KFC Chicken Is Exactly The Same As It Was In 1940... Except The Frying Oil Has Changed

The 11 herbs and spices used in the fried chicken recipe has remained the same since the 1930s - as have the ingredients used to make up the batter. Only one thing has changed in the US recipe in that time - and that is the oil. In the 1980s the company switched from hydrogenated vegetable oil to cheaper varieties such as palm or soybean. However, in the 2000s this changed again to trans-fat-free soybean oil in all of KFC's US outlets.
